Handheld laser pointers have caught people’s fascination ever since they were introduced to the public. Red laser pointers were the first handheld lasers to hit the market and as new technology developed it was possible to mass produce handheld green laser pointers. The year 2000 began a new millennium and also began a new realm of amateur laser enthusiasts. Today the technology has advanced to the point that the US military has weapon scopes that can blind targets from 2.5 miles or 4 kilometers away, using a 250mW Green Laser.

Science

Green Laser Pointers are much more complicated than a handheld red laser pointer; because the laser diodes in this wavelength range are not as common as the red laser diode.

The green laser pointer beam is generated using an indirect process that begins with a high-power infrared AlGaAs laser diode operating at 808 nm. The 808 nm light energizes a crystal with neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum vanadate (Nd:YVO4).

The Vanadate crystal is coated with a dielectric mirror on the diode side, that reflects at 808 nm and transmits at 1064 nm. The Vanadate crystal is mounted on a copper block to supply sufficient heat loss. The 1064 nm output is directed into a KTP crystal (potassium titanyl phosphate), mounted on a heat sink in the laser cavity resonator.

Our units utilize as a frequency doubler, and halves the wavelength to the desired 532nm that green lasers are viewed at.

Blue-Violet laser pointers became available around 2006 and have the same basic construction as green laser pointers. It is based on the relatively new Blu-ray diode laser, which is a directly-injected laser diode emitting laser radiation near 405nm in the violet part of the spectrum instead of having a number of crystals and stuff in the optical train to convert a longer wavelength into a shorter one, a technology used most frequently with yellow, green, and blue lasers.

A laser is a device that controls the way that energized atoms release photons. "Laser" is an acronym for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation, which describes very succinctly how a laser works. This laser uses the same wavelength used in Blu-ray DVD players.

Our violet laser pointers produce a 405 nm beam, and is produced from fabrication with InGaN semiconductors, which emit a violet light beam at 405 nm wave length (close to ultraviolet, rides on the very extreme of our vision) which can cause bright blue fluorescence on many white surfaces, including projection screens and other ultraviolet materials.

An InGaN laser emits 405 nm directly without a frequency double, which means that accidental dangerous infrared emission is impossible.
